Minutes for June 05, 2006

______________ CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
(Official Name to be Decided Later)
June 5, 2006

Moderator Matt Redmond convened the initial board meeting of the _________ Classical Christian School (Official name to be decided later) at 6:00 p.m., at the Redmond’s home.

Present: Trey and Elizabeth O’Brien, Matt and Bethany Redmond, and Jeff and Brady Warren.

Agenda: To elect a board.

Minutes: There were no minutes, as this was the initial board meeting.

The meeting was opened with a time of prayer.

New Business:
A motion was made, and seconded, to elect the following board members: Trey O’Brien, Elizabeth O’Brien, Matt Redmond, Bethany Redmond, Jeff Warren, and Brady Warren. There was no discussion. The board members were unanimously elected.
Matt said he would create a blog for the school. He could post articles, suggested reading lists, and other Classical Christian schools’ web sites to our blog. We all agreed this was a good idea.
Plans for this summer/fall:
Read as much as we can on Classical Christian schools. Matt distributed a recommended reading list form the Association of Classical Christian Schools.

Visit other schools (Jackson, Oxford, Kosciusko, Memphis, Birmingham).

Obtain copies of other Classical Christian schools’ by-laws so that we can begin drafting one for our school.

Plan an informational community meeting this fall.

The question was raised as to why Greenwood needs another school. What is wrong with Pillow? We all agreed that this is not anti Pillow. We want something different, very different, than what Pillow can offer. The Classical form of education is the best teaching paradigm. The teaching structure (grammar, logic, rhetoric) is designed to teach children to learn. The Classical Christian school is also designed to teach our children a Christian world and life view. In short, it is academic discipleship. We want this school to be Christ centered and to focus on the cross (the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ).

The next meeting was scheduled for Saturday June 17th, 5:30 p.m., at the Redmond’s.

Respectfully Submitted: Jeff Warren
